Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy

Background: You are Trevor McFur, a corporal in the Crescent Galaxy Circle Reserves.  You must defeat, Odd-It, an entity which makes all things odd and clear the Odd-It infestation from four moons and the Planet Cosmolite. Each moon consists of a couple boards and end bosses.  Once you complete the four moons you move on to Planet Cosmolite and battle Odd-It itself.

The game is filled with weapons and a series of powerups.  The first weapon is the laser cannon which has six stages of power – increased each time you get another cannon powerup.  Then there is the bomb which can also be upgraded.  The third weapon is the special weapon – choose from one of 9 including a large magnet, beam, missile, shield, and help from Cutter your ally. But in order to use a special weapon you need to first get the particular weapon powerup.

Game Play: The graphics for this game are phenomenal.  The asteroids and enemies look consistently brilliant.  The sound effects are also excellent – perhaps to make up for the lack of in game music.

Switching special weapons is very distracting and caused my ship to get destroyed many times (as my eyes drifted to the controller to select the desired special weapon).

The biggest problem with this game is the difficulty.  Even with several continues, you die quickly and often.  After a little practice, you will be able to beat each of the four moons individually, but will find it very difficult to beat them all in a row.  For those of you who can bear it, you may have to result to one of the “cheats” to solve the game.  Part of the difficulty lies with the fact that your ship is destroyed with only one hit.

There is a wide selection of enemies and the different boards are unique and interesting.  One thing you will notice is that many of the enemies have a distorted perspective – seeming way too big and very bizarre – chalk it up to Odd-It I suppose.

Overall this game’s great potential falls short due to the difficulty. The screen routinely gets completely filled with enemies and barriers resulting in almost certain death.  One source of great frustration is that once your ship is hit and you die, your laser canon goes back to the lowest power.

Pros: graphics, sound effects, variety of enemies, selection of special weapons
Cons: but too many special weapons to choose from, very difficult, weird perspectives
