Asteroids Deluxe (7800) – An excellent game. I think the graphics especially the space rocks are great. I enjoy the sound and overall playability. This is an excellent port of a classic Atari game.

   – Looks, sounds, and plays beautifully. The simultaneous 2-player games are a blast, and it’s great.

Berzerk (2600)
   – A great version of this arcade game. It is just plain fun. As you travel from board to board you shot the enemy robots while trying to avoid both the robots and the walls. This game has many options including choosing whether a bouncing happy face will come after you in each board! A winner.

Centipede (2600/7800) – The graphics difference between the Atari 7800 and 2600 versions is like night and day. The 7800 version comes alive compared to the choppy 2600 version. The sound is also a great feature. An excellent port on an original game.

1/2 – This game is great!! I didn’t know they had a 7800 version. I have one question for you????? How do you kill Ant May???? My daughter and I cannot get past that level!!!! We are getting really frustrated trying to get away from her!!!

Centipede (7800)
  – A good port of the arcade classic, but not really any better than the 5200 version- but that was a really good version.

Choplifter (7800) – This game looks very similar to the 8 bit version. Overall the graphics are good and the game is very fun. Here the goal is for you to pilot your helicopter into enemy territory and rescue prisoners. Then you must return them to your home base all the while avoiding enemy tanks and planes. Be careful not to accidentally land on your prisoners or squash! I like this game, but the control can get frustrating when you try to move your helicopter from side to side.

 – Somehow, it fails to capture the appeal of earlier versions, although it has better graphics (for the most part). VERY difficult.

 – Disappointing, second-rate Gauntlet. Dull, but it does have good graphics and scrolling.

| Desert Falcon (7800)
  – Similar to Zaxxon, this game boasts terrific graphics, good sound, and gameplay more complex than Zaxxon. You can pick up combinations of symbols for powers (or problems), as well as jewels for the bonus screen when you destroy the magnificent Howling Sphinx at the end of each level. A bit rough around the edges, but a great game.

| Dig Dug (7800)
   – Until this version came out in 1984 there wasn’t any home version really close to the arcade version. Great graphics, sound, and gameplay add up to a winner. Press the fire button quickly after the game ends and you can continue where you left off!

| Donkey Kong (2600/7800)
  – The 7800 version is a great improvement on the 2600 port. The graphics are much improved, the sound much better, and there are improved boards. In the 2600 game, there are only the two unique boards which all get harder as you get along. In the 7800 version there are 3 boards and the new one is very fun.

 – Not quite up to the NES version (3 screen), which wasn’t all that good either. Bad sound, and missing that conveyer belt screen.

| Donkey Kong Jr. (7800)
  – With all 4 screens it’s a big improvement over Donkey Kong, and it’s nearly as good as the NES version. Sound is weak. Not up to the 4-screen ColecoVision version (Beta), though.

Double Dragon (7800) – The least of the 3 home video versions (NES, SMS, 7800), but it does feature simultaneous 2-player action and some good graphics and challenge.Reviewer: Aswald |

Food Fight (7800) – One of my favorite Atari games. Here you have to avoid a bunch of cooks who jump up out of the floor and try to hit you with food. Your reward is a big, tasty ice cream cone. Sounds realistic doesn’t it? As you move on the boards become harder and harder until it is impossible. Good graphics, excellent music, and good gradual difficulty.

   – As with the arcade game the graphics aren’t all that great, but its humorous tone and delightful gameplay will hook you. There’s more to it than you might think.

| Galaga (7800)
  – A good version of this classic arcade game. The sound and graphics are done well. It has high playability. It can get difficult at times. The best feature is probably the song that keeps playing as you destroy those enemy ships who appear on the screen, go into formation, and then dive and attack you space ship.

 – Not too bad, but doesn’t hold a candle to the NES version.

| Hat Trick (7800)
  – I am not a big game sports fan. But if I were, this would be my game. This hockey game just looks pleasing to the eye-something about the white ice. The sound and graphics overall are good. Here you play with a goalie and additional player. The one drawback is that the joystick controls both the goalie and additional player at the same time which can get confusing.

  – Nice enough hockey game. Nothing spectacular, but nice. Better with two players.

| Joust (2600/7800)
Joust 2600
 – I have a love hate relationship with this game. I love to start playing it, but hate to keep playing it. There is something quite attractive to me about the concept of the game. You can be a knight on a flying bird no less. Yet no matter how many times I play the game, I am horrible. I think it has to do with the control of the bird. Not only do you have to constantly press the button to keep the bird flying, but you have to make sure you don’t run into other birds or items. No one said flying a bird over lava would be easy.

(+) – You won’t do any better, unless you own the arcade version itself. Beautiful graphics, good sound, and wonderful gameplay. And yes, the simultaneous 2-player version is here, as are all the waves, Lava Troll, and multiple Pterodactyls.

| Karateka (7800)
  – First of all, I have very fond memories of this game. You could be a Master of Karate, defeat the bad guys, and rescue the girl from the evil warlord. That is part of the reason I give this such a high mark. Warning: this game is nearly impossible to control. You will get frustrated. Certain moves puts your character in running mode, certain ones for fighting/walking mode, others to duck, then certain ones for all your kicking and punching. By the time you remember how to do a move, a bird attacks you and your dead. But I keep trying for memory sake. The music and overall graphics are good.

 – Not overly exciting and rather slow, but the same was true of the original computer versions.

Keystone Kapers (2600) – Just a fun game. Here your a cop in a department/grocery store and you must track down the robber inside. He can be on any of the three floors or roof. You have a radar screen and can use the elevator or escalators to move from floor to floor. Each time you get the robber the board resets and becomes more difficult. Carts fly at you or things fly through the air. You should get this game.

| Mrs. Pacman (2600/7800)
Mrs. Pacman (2600)
   – The 2600 version is probably my favorite 2600/7800 game. It has very good graphics for the 2600, excellent sound effects, and great playability. What can I say a classic. The 7800 version has better overall graphics, but suffers from two issues. First the sound effects, with the constant beeping is downright annoying. The 2600 version only beeps when you eat one of the many points. It gives you a sense of accomplishment. But the 7800 beeping just gets on your nerves. The other distraction is that Mrs. Pacman pauses when she eats a Ghost. This pause is interrupts your flow in the game and your concentration.

| One-on-One Basketball (7800)
  – Not a bad game. Of all the Atari 2600/7800 sports games, I like this the best. The graphics are good for the 7800 and you can choose to be either Larry Bird or Dr. J (Irving). What can I say, if you like sports games this is for you.

| Robotron 2084 (7800)
  – Destroy the robots, save the humans, all in a days work. Here you are continually transported to new boards where you must destroy all the robots to progress to the next one. Along the way try to save the humans located all over the screen. The game is fun, with good graphics. It can be difficult trying to shot the robots and avoid their shots at the same time. Beware: some robots do not die.

| Xevious (7800)
 – This game is a shooter/flyer. You are in a little ship and must go bomb and shoot enemy ships and ground installations. Overall this game is o.k., however the scenery seems to get a little repetitive. Although, it can be fun when you try to avoid all the missiles fired at you.
Reviewer: AAP
   – Excellent translation of the 1983 arcade game. Better than the NES version; if you liked the arcade version then you will NOT be disappointed! Hint- flicking the A/B switch will allow one button to fire AND drop bombs!
